I deleted thousands of old emails from my PST file in Outlook 2016 to free up space, but the file size hasn’t changed. Outlook still runs slowly, and the PST file is around 9 GB.

Is there a way to compress or compact the PST file after deleting items? Please share the safest method that won’t cause data loss.

The Shoviv PST Compress Tool is superior due to its ability to maintain important data intact during the compression process. Although it typically removes the duplicate items to maximize storage, users can be allowed to keep all duplicates if needed, without data loss. The tool also provides users with the choice of excluding the Deleted Items folder while compressing, so no permanently deleted emails are altered. With these user-configurable settings, the program places users entirely in control, allowing for a safe and accurate compression experience.

Compressing large PST files is possible. If you need to compress a PST file that is making Outlook perform poorly, use the Softaken Compress PST software. With this program, you can reduce the size of your PST file and speed up the compression procedure without losing any data. By removing extraneous sections, attachments, and spaces from your Outlook data, it improves manageability and productivity. Use the application to reduce the time you spend working on Outlook PST files.

Hi Sophia,

Deleting emails doesn’t instantly reduce the PST file size because Outlook marks the space as available but doesn’t compact the file. To fix this, go to:
File > Account Settings > Data Files > Settings > Compact Now.
This will help shrink the file and improve Outlook’s performance.

If the PST file is still too large or Outlook runs slowly, consider using an external Outlook PST splitter tool to divide it into smaller, manageable parts without data loss.

Let me know if you need help with the steps!
