Should fundraising organizations and nonprofits use this method? How does the process look like for the donor? How does it look like for the nonprofit?

As the term implies, “matching gifts” simply mean that a company will “match” the donation that their employee makes to a nonprofit that is eligible for such program. There are several companies both in the US and in the UK that have matching gift programs.

So, how do these programs work? The specifics will vary from company to company but in general, most companies uphold a 1:1 ratio which means that if, for example, you decide to donate $1000 dollars, your company will also donate $1,000.

For donors, the first step of course is to donate, then verify if your employer does have corporate giving programs. Thirdly, do the necessary paperwork so finalize matters with the company.

If you’re the nonprofit, the first step is to inform your donors about matching gifts. Then review the paperwork indicating that a matching gift has been filed by a donor with a particular company. Lastly, confirm the donation and the finalization of the paperwork.

Matching gifts is a great way for nonprofits and fundraisers to take their campaigns to the next level. And now that more organizations can connect Facebook with Salesforce, managing donations and constituent data is faster, easier, and more efficient.
