Downsizing to a smaller house, we have items from the last home that we’d like to retain and keep in the new one, but we don’t want the new place just to be a smaller version of our previous house.

Whether you’re moving to a different town or you simply want a smaller, easier-to-maintain space, downsizing is a good option, especially if you’ve found a place that meets your needs. Some people moving to a smaller area want to retain the look and feel of their previous home. But in your case, you’d like to take on a new approach while still including some elements from your last space.

This can be a tricky job without the help of an interior designer. Why? Because the configuration of the new, smaller space isn’t likely to be the replica of the previous house. This means, that even before determining which design elements go where in the new home, what first needs to be settled is how the layout and provisions of the new house meet your needs. For this, you’ll need an interior designer who can give expert advice on creating the most suited furniture layout, lighting plans, and of course, with the design and decorative aspects later on.
