How can I completely avoid blockage in my drainage system?

I've been in my apartment for up to a decade now and I've never had a drainage problem. This is especially worth mentioning because in my previous apartment, I experienced congested pipes almost every other day.

Part of it is being lucky enough to move to an apartment with better drainage, but also a huge part is being able to recognize some of the reasons why drains get blocked in the first place and how to avoid them.

For instance, I've ensured to never flush my toiletries down the drain (including sanitary products). I also never throw oil or grease into the sink, I keep my food scraps far from it, along with hair clumps.

One thing to also be on the lookout for is soap. They tend to break into tiny particles that can somehow find their way down the pipes but ultimately build up and cause serious problems even for professional drain specialists down the stretch.

Now you might not be able to completely keep these things out of the sink, but the goal is to be committed to it so that even if a few slip through the cracks, they will not be enough to cause massive buildup and subsequent blockage.
