There are several good ways of preventing cracks in your dog's paws during the summer. My dog has similar issues, so I picked up a few good tricks over the years.
The cause of the problem is that a dog's paw pads, while tough, are also vulnerable to harsh conditions. The summer heat can cause the ground to become extremely hot, leading to dryness and cracking of the paws.
One of the easiest ways to prevent this is by using a paw balm. As seen here: https://myhealthydog.com/products/paw-balm. Another good solution is avoiding walks during the peak hours of the day when the ground can be incredibly hot.
Instead, consider taking walks early in the morning or later in the evening when the temperatures have cooled down. Sticking to grassy areas or shaded paths can also protect your pup's paws from the harsh hot pavement.
Also, keep your dog hydrated. Hydrated cells are healthier cells, and this includes the cells in your dog's paws, so make sure your doggo has access to plenty of fresh water.
